During the cold winter, we often use a hot-pack to warm my body. However, if not used safely, we can be exposed to low-temperature burns without being noticed.
Every year, the number of accidents caused by heating device is increasing. Among them, low-temperature burns account for the largest proportion as 58.4% of the damage types caused by hot packs. In fact, the number of patients is increasing who undergo low-temperature burns during the winter and visit a burn specialist.
According to Dr. Jung-hwan Lee, Director of the Department of Burn Plastic Surgery at Hangangsoo Hospital, the temperature we feel warm enough when using a hot pack is between 40 to 60 degrees Celsius, but that is the temperature which can cause a low-temperature burn to our skin.
It is reported that there was a huge temperature gap to various products of a hot pack up to 60 Celsius degrees when they were heated in the microwave for 3 minutes. Exposing the skin to those warming devices for a long time can lead to a risk of low-temperature burns.
Dr. Jung-hwan Lee mentioned, "There are many cases where low-temperature burns have badly affected on the skin when the wounds are noticed. Low-temperature burns can be damaging than expected "
When a low-temperature burn is found, it is highly likely that the skin has already seriously been damaged deep inside. So as soon as you feel symptoms of a low-temperature burn, you should immediately visit a burn specialist for treatment!
